Boutique Roasting Pays off for Mantle & Moon
The annual Golden Bean Coffee Roasters Competition and Conference took place at Rydges in Port Macquarie earlier this month. A selection of some of the country’s best coffee roasters gathered as industry professionals judged the best roasted coffee.
The event has been running successfully now for twelve years in Australia and three years in North America. An event for Europe is now also in the pipeline. Entry is by coffee roasters submitting their entries which are then judged through a blind tasting format, in 10 different categories and brew methods. No less than 1500 cups were judged throughout the weekend, using coffees from Australia and New Zealand. The Golden Bean Coffee Roasters Competition is one of the key elements in the growth of the Australian coffee industry.
Mantle Group’s Head Roaster, Robbie Lynch, attended the event and this year Mantle & Moon won two medals. Mantle Group is proud to announce that Supanova has won a Gold medal in the Franchise/Chain – Milk Based category. Supanova is a rich milk chocolate and honey bodied blend with sweet lime acidity and hints of vanilla throughout. Its composition is made up of beans from Kenya, Costa Rica and Peru. Supanova was up against many exceptional blends from all over Australia and New Zealand, so to come away in first place with a Gold medal is outstanding. Mantle Group also won a Bronze medal for Supanova, in the Chain/Franchise – Espresso category.
Mantle & Moon’s Head Roaster and Barista Robbie Lynch has been working at Mantle Group for two years, and has six years of experience working in the coffee roasting industry. He already holds a number of prestigious awards under his belt. Robbie is in sole charge of roasting beans for Mantle Group’s boutique coffee blend which hit the market in 2013. It is exclusively stocked at 14 Mantle Group food and beverage outlets in and around Brisbane. The launch of Mantle & Moon was three years in the making as sourcing the right beans, partnering with the right producers and testing blends were required in order to align with the group’s Paddock to Plate ethos. Customer responses were also essential in the process and Mantle Group used customer feedback to ensure the best possible blend was created. Approximately 300kg of Mantle & Moon coffee beans are roasted every week.
Mantle & Moon has won awards in the 2013, 2014 and 2016 Golden Bean Roasting Awards and in 2015 Mantle & Moon Craft Coffee was named as a silver place-getter in the 2015 Australian International Coffee Awards. In 2018 Mantle & Moon will be available outside of Brisbane for the first time as Mantle Group expands its portfolio to Sydney early next year.
